Villa Bossi 2019

Chianti Riserva DOCG

The Villa Bossi Riserva has always been the emblem of selecting the best blends. It could be defined as Gran Riserva or Grand Cru or a wine for reflection. It has always been the flagship wine, a structured and very long-lived reserve, only since 1988 has it been produced with these grape varietals.

Harvest and climate

The 2019 vintage was characterized by winter rainfall and a mild spring. The summer was variable with a very hot July followed by August rainfall, which lowered temperatures. This resulted in excellent quality grapes, with aromas and notes that will be found in the wine.

Fermentation and vinification

Fermentation takes place in vats at a temperature of 20° C, controlled by a refrigeration system. Malolactic fermentation follows in oak barrels.

Ageing

Aged for 12 months in 25 hl Slavonian oak barrels, 12 months in barriques, and 24 months in the bottle.

Tasting notes

Villa Bossi 2019 has an intense ruby red color, with good color depth and light purple reflections. Great olfactory impact with a fruity aroma of ripe and macerated cherry and blackberry, followed by a sweet and integrated spicy note of vanilla with balsamic and toasted nuances. The finish presents notes of chocolate and coffee. On the palate, great structure and character. The fullness of the wine is demonstrated in the roundness and personality of the tannins. The finish is long, with fruity and mineral notes, closing with a pleasant hint of chocolate.

Pairing

Game stews and roasts, very aged and mature cheeses.

Production area

The Villa Bossi Estate, at an altitude of approximately 300 meters above sea level, in the Sottomonte and Camerata vineyards, with a southern exposure and on a hill, has 9.2 hectares of Sangiovese, 3.1 hectares of Colorino, and 2.7 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon. Stony and clayey soils with calcareous sediments. Training system: Spur-pruned cordon.

Serving temperature and glass

Recommended serving temperature: 16-18 °C. The bottle should be opened about an hour beforehand; for older vintages, the use of a decanter is recommended. The glass to use for this wine is the Baloon or Bordeaux glass.
