The Riserva Villa Bossi has always been the emblem of selecting the best blends. It could be defined as Gran Riserva or Grand Cru or a wine for contemplation. It has always been the flagship wine, a structured and very long-lived reserve, produced with these grape varieties only since 1988.

Harvest and climate

The 2015 vintage was characterized by abundant rainfall during winter and a mild spring. The summer was variable with sometimes heavy rainfall and some hailstorms. However, the quality of the grapes harvested and brought to the cellar was of a high standard, suggesting a vintage of great depth. The grapes were harvested manually in early October.

Fermentation and vinification

Fermentation takes place in vats at a controlled temperature of 20° C using a refrigeration unit. This is followed by malolactic fermentation in oak barrels.

Ageing

It rests for 12 months in 25 hl Slavonian oak barrels, 12 months in barriques, and 24 months in the bottle.

Tasting notes

Villa Bossi 2015 is an intense ruby red color, with good coloring and light purple reflections. Great olfactory impact with ripe and macerated cherry and blackberry fruit, followed by a sweet and integrated vanilla spice with balsamic and toasty nuances. The finish presents notes of chocolate and coffee. On the palate, great structure and character. The fullness of the wine is evident in the roundness and personality of the tannins, the finish is long with fruity and mineral notes, closing with a pleasant chocolate note.

Pairing

Game stews and roasts, very aged and mature cheeses.

Production area

Tenuta della Villa Bossi, at an altitude of about 300 meters above sea level, in the Sottomonte and Camerata vineyards, with a southern exposure and on a hill, there are 9.2 hectares of Sangiovese, 3.1 hectares of Colorino and 2.7 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon. Gale soil and clay soil with calcareous sediments. Training system: Spur-pruned cordon.

Serving temperature and glass

Recommended serving temperature: 16-18 °C. The bottle should be opened about an hour beforehand. For older vintages, decanting is recommended. The appropriate glass for this wine is a Balloon or Bordeaux glass.
