Villa Bossi 2005

Chianti Riserva DOCG

The Riserva Villa Bossi has always been the emblem of the selection of the best blends. It could be defined as Gran Riserva or Gran Cru or a wine for reflection. It has always been the flagship wine, a structured and very long-lived reserve, only since 1988 has it been produced with these grape varieties.

Harvest and climate

The 2005 vintage was characterized by rain in almost all seasons, with mild temperatures. This led to a delay in ripening, thus difficulties during the harvest, but nevertheless the grapes are healthy, fully ripe, and up to par with recent harvests. The grapes were harvested manually in early October.

Fermentation and vinification

Fermentation takes place in vats at a temperature of 20°C, controlled by a refrigeration unit. This is followed by malolactic fermentation in oak barrels.

Ageing

It rests for 12 months in 25 hl Slavonian oak barrels, 12 months in barriques, and 24 months in the bottle.

Tasting notes

Villa Bossi 2005 has an intense ruby red color, with a good coloring power and slight garnet reflections. Great olfactory impact with a fruity aroma of cherry and ripe, macerated blackberry, followed by a sweet and integrated spicy note of vanilla with balsamic and toasted nuances. The finish presents notes of licorice and coffee. On the palate, it has great structure and character. The fullness of the wine is demonstrated in the roundness and personality of the tannins; the finish is long with fruity and mineral notes, closing with a pleasant hint of licorice and coffee.

Pairing

Game stews and roasts, very aged and mature cheeses.

Production area

Tenuta della Villa Bossi, at an altitude of approximately 300 meters above sea level, in the Sottomonte and Camerata vineyards, with a south-facing hillside exposition, there are 9.2 hectares of Sangiovese, 3.1 hectares of Colorino, and 2.7 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon. Gravelly and clayey soils with calcareous sediments. Training system: Spur-pruned cordon.
