Fiammae 2020

Fiammae 2020

Colli della Toscana centrale IGT

Born from the vision of Gerardo and Lapo Gondi, who, believing in the territory and its most representative grape variety, Sangiovese, felt the need to have a traditional yet innovative wine among the Tenuta Bossi wines. A wine that embodies the characteristics of their souls: power and persistence, balance and freshness.

Harvest and climate

The 2020 was one of the warmest vintages in recent years. High temperatures, especially in summer, accelerated the ripening of the grapes. The rains in August helped achieve a vegetative-productive balance. The grapes, hand-picked on September 10th, arrived perfectly ripe at the winery. 50% were left to dry in the attic for a month, while the rest were immediately pressed.

Fermentation and vinification

Fermentation takes place in a 500-liter steel tank, at a temperature controlled by a refrigeration unit.

Ageing

Aged for 18 months in French barriques, specifically 50% of the wine immediately pressed with a medium-toasted barrique, and the dried portion with a more austere and powerful quality barrique. Finally, the wine is aged for 12 months in the bottle.

Tasting notes

Fiammae 2017 has a bright ruby red color. On the nose, it is very intense and highly complex, with sensations that start with both fresh and dried red fruits, such as cherry, strawberry, and raspberry, then develop into spicy and toasty notes. The spiciness is sweet, closing with hints of dark chocolate and sweet tobacco. On the palate, it is powerful and rich, with tight and silky tannins. The fruity notes of strawberry and cherry, along with the toasty and spicy notes, are echoed on the palate. A wine of great personality.

Pairing

Rich red meats such as filet mignon or small game.

Production area

Tenuta della Villa Bossi, at an altitude of approximately 300 meters above sea level, in the Fiammae vineyard, on 2 hectares of Sangiovese with a southern exposure and on a hill. Shale and clay soils with calcareous sediments. Cultivation: Cordon spur.

Serving temperature and glass

Recommended serving temperature: 16-18 °C. The bottle should be opened about an hour beforehand; for older vintages, decanting is recommended. The glass to use for this wine is the Balloon or Bordeaux glass.
