Fiammae 2019

Fiammae 2019

Colli della Toscana centrale IGT

Born from the vision of Gerardo and Lapo Gondi, who, believing in the territory and its most representative grape variety, Sangiovese, felt the need to have a traditional yet innovative wine among the Tenuta Bossi wines. A wine that embodies the characteristics of their souls: power and persistence, balance and freshness.

Harvest and climate

2019 was one of the hottest vintages in recent years. High temperatures, especially in summer, accelerated grape ripening. August rains helped achieve a vegetative-productive balance. The grapes, hand-picked on September 10th, arrived at the winery perfectly ripe. 50% were left to dry in the attic for a month, while the rest was immediately pressed.

Fermentation and vinification

Fermentation takes place in a 500-liter steel vat, at a temperature controlled by a refrigeration unit.

Ageing

Aged for 18 months in French barriques, specifically 50% of the wine pressed immediately with a medium-toast barrique, while the dried grapes were aged in a barrique with a more austere and powerful quality. Finally, the wine is aged for 12 months in the bottle.

Tasting notes

Fiammae 2017 has a brilliant ruby red color. On the nose, it is very intense and complex, with sensations that begin with red fruits, both fresh and dried, such as cherry, strawberry, and raspberry, then unfold with spicy and toasted notes. The spiciness is sweet, finishing with nuances of dark chocolate and sweet tobacco. On the palate, it is powerful and rich, with tight and silky tannins. The fruity notes of strawberry and cherry, along with the toasted and spicy notes, are echoed in the mouth. A wine of great personality.

Pairing

Hearty red meats such as fillet or small game.

Production area

Tenuta della Villa Bossi, at an altitude of about 300 meters above sea level, in the Fiammae vineyard, on 2 hectares of Sangiovese with a southern exposure and on a hill. Slaty and clayey soils with calcareous sediments. Training system: spurred cordon.

Serving temperature and glass

Recommended serving temperature: 16-18 °C. The bottle should be opened about an hour beforehand; decanting is recommended for older vintages. The appropriate glass for this wine is a Baloon or a Bordeaux glass.
